Workpackages

The CeNTER Program is structured around a research line, which is organized in 5 workpackages (WP), with a total duration of 36 months.

WP 1: Project Management and Coordination – it ensures the proper implementation of all Program activities.

WP 2: Community-led Territorial Innovation Models – it creates a shared understanding of the theoretical basis of the main themes covered by the Program;

WP 3: Networks and mediation in territorial innovation – it prototypes and validates a pilot mediation platform for territorial innovation;

WP 4: Measuring the impact of territorial innovation – it proposes new tools to assess and evaluate territorial innovation processes and outcomes;

WP 5: Communication and Dissemination – it ensures dissemination of all activities and outcomes of the other WPs.

WP 2, 3 and 4 form the core of the CeNTER Program.

It aims at managing and coordinating the project in such a way that efficient collaboration and communication among researchers and with actors outside the consortium is achieved, project objectives are fulfilled, high quality standards are met and the expected impact is achieved.

It aims to create a shared understanding of the concept of territorial innovation, as well as its engines, barriers, main challenges and opportunities in European regions, especially at NUTS II regions. In particular, this WP will develop insights on “what works” and “what does not work” in territorial innovation. This common understanding of the challenges and opportunities in territorial innovation will direct and define the activities of WP3 and WP4. These two WPs run in parallel in time and will focus on specific target groups relevant for the uptake of the research and for the enhancement and upscaling of innovation at various levels and of various types.

Workpackage 3 aims at studying the role of ICT mediation strategies in the context of territorial innovation processes. This work package will include the validation of the territorial innovation model proposed by WP2, through the creation of a prototype for a pilot digital platform.

This WP aims at providing an overview of the current theoretical approaches for measurement territorial innovation performance and its adequacy to the Portuguese reality; and, also, to develop measurement tools for territorial innovation that will enable the understanding of the main differences in terms innovation within a geographical context at the NUTS II and III levels. Also, in order to provide a better understanding about territorial innovation and its evolvement over time and space, an Observatory for Human Capital and regional innovation performance will be established.

It is a relevant WP throughout the project, and concerns the overall dissemination of experiences and lessons learned, and aims at creating a continuous and consistent stream of communication and dissemination activities targeting the different regions and communities across Portugal and beyond.
